For more than 40 years, Jim Buckingham has been exploring the endless waterways of Northern Saskatchewan. In this panel discussion Jim and "Bucky" will introduce you to canoe tripping in the Canadian Shield, one of the most extensive wilderness areas in the world.

From trip planning and logistics, to camping and paddling the various tributaries of the Churchill, we are thrilled to have Bucky join us on CanoeingLive.

DOUG MCKOWN

SAFETY WHILE CANOEING

Doug McKown is a Legendary Canoeist residing in Banff, Alberta. Doug has had canoeing in his veins all of his life. He has resided in the Bow Valley for almost 50 year, a base from which he has paddled most major rivers in Canada. He has taught canoeing to thousands of individuals and groups and along with Jim Buckingham he has been an integral part of the Banff River Canoe Courses since the 1970s.


He is the author of two books on river safety and anyone who has paddled with Doug has probably been rescued by him as well! Doug is a major influence on Jim’s canoeing career and we are pleased to invite him to present on CanoeingLive.

TINA BARZO

CONSERVATION FROM A CANOE

Tina has been a member of the Bow Waters Canoe Club for 15 years and works for Parks Canada Agency in Banff National Park as the Leader of Volunteer Engagement. She lives in Canmore, Alberta, with hubby and two fur-babies, and also loves to hike, bike, and canoe (solo and tandem). She is also the new “captain” of Women Who Paddle, an online community empowering female paddlers.

In her presentation, "CONSERVATION FROM A CANOE" Tina Barzo will give you tips (the dry kind) on river-based Leave No Trace principles and practices; "Clean, Dry, Drain" protocol for paddlers; and "citizen science" to inspire and enable you to help with science, monitoring and research. We are delighted to have her on CanoeingLive.

MARK LUND

TRIP PLANNING & GOOGLE EARTH

For more than forty years Mark as contributed to many paddling groups including Paddle Canada, the Alberta Whitewater Association, the Ceyana Canoe Club, and more! As an author, paddling instructor, trainer, coach and association member, there are few paddlers in the province who have not been touched by his work in developing, delivering or supporting paddling programs across Alberta (and Canada!).


Mark’s knowledge of trip planning, along with his incredible work as a guidebook author, has helped endless numbers of paddlers safely explore Canadian rivers. We’re thrilled to have him join us to talk about how Google Earth can be an incredibly powerful tool for canoeists on CanoeingLive.
